Masterfully adapted to cinema from cult writer Haruki Murakami’s story, Burning was the unanimous favourite of critics at Cannes, where it premiered. Faithful to its original source and Murakami’s style, Burning tells a story of rage and obsession through a love triangle between an ordinary young man, a beautiful woman he falls in love with. and a rich and arrogant man. This is Lee Chang-dong’s first feature film after an eight-year hiatus that follows the critically acclaimed Oasis, Secret Sunshine, and Poetry. Tackling issues such as love, obsession, class tension, and memory, the film’s lead roles are performed by Korean actor, fashion icon and art historian Yoo Ah-in, Steven Yeun (from Walking Dead and Okja), and Jeon Jong-seo.
