Ben has been bringing up his six children quite far from civilisation, in the northwestern Pacific forests. Parenthood has taken on a specific form in this isolated environment, creating its own verity, and the children are vulnerable to modernity, unable to acquire any immunity against it. Following his wife’s unexpected death, Ben’s life and order is disrupted, and he is forced to bring his whole family to the city. Under the new conditions, the children will need to confront the city itself, while Ben will need to review his parenting methods. Matt Ross creates an astonishing atmosphere of warmth adorned with laughter and tears, while Viggo Mortensen adds another quirky character to his gallery of oddballs.
