2018 CANNES Best Actor (M. Fonte)
2018 JERUSALEM Best Film
Tackling the mafia and violence in his acclaimed Gomorrah, Matteo Garrone’s latest Cannes contender centres on an ordinary man, searching for the origins of evil in a small coastal town. Puny and sympathetic "Dogman" Marcello is much loved in his town as both the dog carer and the local drug dealer. His life takes a turn for the worse because of his proximity to vicious coke-head, ex-boxer Simone. Winning Silver Ribbons in eight categories in Italy, Dogman is led by Marcello Fonte, an untrained actor, who recalls Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin, the silent era legends. The film also won the Palm Dog award.
Dogman was declared as Italy's Oscar nominee.
