Another brilliant collaboration between independent director Noah Baumbach and the radiant Greta Gerwig, who had co-written and starred in Frances Ha. Gerwig is Brooke, the soonto- be-step sister of Tracy, a lonely college freshman. Tracy has neither the exciting university experience nor the glamorous New Yorker lifestyle she envisioned. Brooke, on the other hand is the adventurous gal about town. The two hang out, hit it off, and Tracy is rescued from her disappointment and seduced by Brooke’s alluringly mad schemes. Mistress America premiered at Sundance and was immediately described as Baumbach’s funniest film to date, with an incredibly smart and sharp screenplay (co-written by Gerwig and Baumbach).
