2018 MONTENEGRO Best Film, Best Actor (Y. Drakopoulos)
2018 ODESSA Best Film, Best Director

Premiering at Sundance, Pity follows a man who is happy only when he is unhappy, craving for sorrow, ready to do anything to get the pity he needs from others. Pity is the story of a man who thinks he lives in a world not sufficiently cruel. Co-written by Efthimis Filippou, who also co-wrote The Lobster, Chevalier, Dogtooth, and The Death of A Sacred Deer, the film is directed by Babis Makridis, whose debut feature L was screened at the Istanbul Film Festival. Recalling Jacques Tati and Buster Keaton among his inspirations, Yannis Drakopoulos gives a fabulous performance as the lead, emphasising the film’s disturbing and oddly humorous tone. Although the parallel universe Pity is set in is quite realistic, it is darker, weirder, and funnier than real life.
