2018 LOCARNO Special Mention
2018 BATUMI Grand Prix, Best Actress

In his directorial debut, celebrated photographer Richard Billingham examines his own family who he had captured on photographs this time for the movie camera. In Ray & Liz, living on the outskirts of Birmingham and the margins of society, the Billingham family perform extreme rituals and break social taboos as they muddle through a life decided by factors beyond their control. At times shocking and laced with an unsettling humour, three episodes unfold as a powerful evocation of the experience of growing up in a Black Country council flat during the greyest of Thatcher years. Having had its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival in August, Ray & Liz portrays life so well that it stays somewhere between reconstruction and art work.
