From Filmekimi

First film from the Filmekimi program: ‘Portrait of a Lady on Fire’!

Directed by Céline Sciamma, “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” won both the Best Screenplay and the Queer Palm awards at Cannes this year. ‘Portrait of a Lady on Fire’ follows an 18th century French painter named Marianne, who falls in love with her latest subject, Héloïse. Marianne is played by Noémie Merlant, and the model Héloïse by Adèle Haenel. Céline Sciamma is best known for her earlier films, Tomboy which she directed, and My Life as a Zucchini, which she wrote, both of which were screened at Filmekimi.

“Portrait of a Lady on Fire” was praised by critics as “GRADE A…. A Masterpiece... As perfect a film as any to have premiered this year.”
