2021 Cannes Jury Prize

The winner of the Golden Bear in 2019 at the Berlin Film Festival with Synonyms, Nadav Lapid won the Jury Prize at 2021 Cannes where Ahed's Knee premiered. Depicting the inner conflicts of a young Israeli man in Paris who is in denial of his identity in Synonyms, Lapid in a once more self-reflective mood depicts an Israeli director who plans his next film about a Palestinian activist. The director, Y, finds himself fighting two losing battles: one against the death of freedom, the other against the illness of his mother. Nadav Lapid is once again critical, angry, and provocative.
