2021 Cannes Best Director

The Sparks Brothers, Leos Carax, and Adam Driver with Marion Cotillard! The opening film of the 2021 Cannes Film Festival is a star-studded, colourful, engaging, boundary-defying rock opera. Written from their original idea and scored by The Sparks Brothers Ron and Russell Mael, who regained their global popularity thanks to Edgar Wrights's documentary, and directed by Leos Carax, who had last taken our breaths away with Holy Motors in 2012, Annette follows a celebrated soprano and a controversially fierce stand-up comedian––a seemingly perfect couple, whose life is turned upside down with the birth of their child Annette, a mysterious girl with an exceptional gift. This unique musical also features Leos Carax and the Sparks Brothers in cameo roles.
