2021 Cannes Vulcan Best Cinematography

Adapted from Alexey Salnikov's novel The Petrovs In and Around the Flu, the film is a deadpan, hallucinatory romp through post-Soviet Russia. With the city in the throes of a flu epidemic, the Petrov family struggles through yet another day. Petrov, who is weakened by a high fever, finds himself on a long, drunken wander. Between dreams and reality, booze and fever, violence and tenderness, Petrov’s childhood memories gradually resurface and merge with the present. One of Russia's most prominent stage and film directors, Kiril Serebrennikov's follow-up to 2018's musical history Leto competed for the Palme d'Or at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, however, the director was banned from leaving his country to attend the premiere.
