Three Floors, Nanni Moretti's follow up to his 2015 Mia madre, had its world premiere at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival. Adapted from Israeli writer Eshkol Nevo's novel, Three Floors traces the disparate lives of three families who reside in the same apartment block in Rome's stylish Prati neighbourhood. On the first floor, a young couple grapple with suspicion about their elderly neighbour. On the second, a mother fights loneliness and the spectre of madness in the absence of her inattentive, always-at-work husband. And finally on the third, a retired judge deals with her troubled twenty-year-old son. Winner of the Istanbul Film Festival's Honorary Cinema Award, Moretti won the Palme d'Or 20 years ago with La stanza del figlio / The Son's Room.
